Daughter of the Sun

Solar girl the light suits you

but the homesickness won’t leave you

That restlessness now just hides

In clandestine spaces amongst shadows

Your teeth will never feel sharp enough

for you were forged in honey and salt

gangly arms stretching under canopies

palms outstretched for overripe fruit

Flushed and olive skinned garbed

in worn-out cotton, breathe deeply now

amongst steep rusty clay cliffs to the blue

deep water hazy and glistening

You’ve leaned back, let the sea hold you

turning your hair into streaming seaweed

while tasting the sensation of eternity

and asked for more with a tameless smile.

There is no fault in feeling the moon’s pull

running to the edge of precipes

is all your bare feet know and this soil

is used to wild things that climb.
